The appreciation of academic experience forms part of its history and is of the essence for L.O. Baptista. Over the decades, it has become one of the firm’s trademarks. The support of continuing education, and the consequent technical improvement of our lawyers, resulted in professionals who are highly-engaged in academic initiatives, including teaching and researching in different areas of law. This culture also nurtures our professional practice as lawyers, keeping us constantly up-to-date and at the forefront of legal knowledge. We believe in the vision of our founder, that an excellent professor is also an excellent lawyer and vice versa.
As one of the results of this symbiotic relationship, the L.O. Baptista Collection was launched in 2018 in partnership with Editora Almedina, which already encompasses 6 titles . In 2020, we implemented another academic-scientific initiative in our firm, the Scholar-in-house Program.
The Program brings professors, researchers and other professionals with relevant academic life to our environment , both in Brazil and abroad. Here, they can enjoy the infrastructure, resources and operational support in the development of their activities while contributing to the expansion of the firm’s intellectual environment, which analyses and discusses with each academic (Scholar) the conditions of their remuneration, in order to allow that their travel and accommodation expenses can also be afforded.
While in the firm, the Scholar can only perform academic-scientific activities (such as producing scientific texts and articles, participating in research projects, events, internal training of lawyers through the L.O. Baptista Academy, internal academic meetings, etc.) , and is not authorized to provide any legal or consultancy services, either in Brazilian or foreign law. In their performance and scientific production, the Scholar expresses only their own opinion or position on a given topic, not necessarily reflecting the institutional position of the firm. Finally, during the period in which they participate in the Program, the Scholar does not belong to L.O. Baptista’s legal team.
Participation in the Program can take place in any of our areas of practice, and the length of the program, conditions and workload are examined and discussed on a case-by-case basis.
The selection of participants is open throughout the year and applications can be made at any time by sending the curriculum, presentation letter, as well as a proposal for academic-scientific activities that the Scholar intends to carry out during a certain period to [email protected]. Recommendation letters are also welcome. Questions can be sent to the same e-mail address.
Currently, the Scholar-in-house Program has the following participants:
