Legal advice for imports and exports, aiming at safer investments

L.O. Baptista represents its clients’ interests before governmental bodies and international organizations. The firm has a vast portfolio of activities in Brazil and abroad, comprised of actions ranging from legal opinions, participation in trade remedy investigations, consulting in customs issues, negotiation of international contracts in general, among other relevant matters of international scope.

The firm’s staff is vastly experienced in trade remedy administrative matters: dumping, subsidies and safeguards before the Trade Remedies Department (DECOM) and the Judiciary, in Brazil. The same is true as regards consulting and litigation services in claims before the World Trade Organization (WTO) and Mercosur.

In addition to cross-border transactions involving investments in Latin America, L.O. Baptista has been active in other parts of the world, where it has, for instance, advised clients on the organization of joint ventures for the development of infrastructure projects.

The firm was also a regular counsel from 2010 to 2014 to the Brazilian Government in disputes and matters related to the WTO, after winning the bid of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

How we can help:

  • Advice, assistance and representation in negotiations, bilateral arrangements or regarding international and regional organizations.
  • Identifying trade barriers and international and private standards; recommending the proper legal tools to impose or eliminate such barriers.
  • Import, export and customs matters, acting before the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC).
  • Analysis of regulatory environments and trade restrictions in order to facilitate the access to the Brazilian market.
  • Representing exporters’ interests in trade remedy investigations in Brazil (dumping, subsidies or safeguards).
