L.O. Baptista Advogados Announces Six New Partners

23/2/2021

In early February, long-standing full-service firm L.O. Baptista Advogados announced the lateral recruitment of three new partners – Silvia Rodrigues Pachikoski (Dispute Resolution), Tonico Monteiro da Silva (Dispute Resolution) and André Staffa Neto (Corporate and M&A) – and the promotion of three associates to partnership – Maria Beatriz Grella Vieira (Corporate and M&A), André de Martini Menossi (Dispute Resolution) and Ulisses Simões (Dispute Resolution) – in a move that strengthens and expands several of the firm’s strategic departments.

Silvia Rodrigues Pachikoski is a distinguished dispute resolution attorney with over 20 years of experience in the legal market. As the Vice-president of the Center for Arbitration and Mediation of the Chamber of Commerce Brazil-Canada (CAM-CCBC), Ms. Pachikoski stands out as an expert in domestic and foreign arbitrations, with substantial experience practicing as an arbitrator and as an arbitration lawyer at her previous firm, RPSN – Rodrigues Pachikoski e Staffa Neto Sociedade de Advogados. Ms. Pachikoski was notably part of the Brazilian Federal Senate Committee of Jurists for the amendment of Brazil’s Arbitration Law.

Tonico Monteiro da Silva brings over 20 years of experience in arbitration and litigation matters to his new firm, with a special focus on construction, insurance, corporate and commercial cases. He has successfully represented Brazilian companies in major foreign arbitration proceedings and previously practiced at notable law firms such as Huck Otranto Camargo Advogados and Tess Advogados before opening his own firm in 2018. Mr. Monteiro da Silva is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CiArb) and acting Secretary and Director of Education of the Brazilian chapter of CiArb. Academically, Mr. Monteiro da Silva obtained a Master’s degree in Civil Procedural Law from Universidade de São Paulo (USP) and an MBA in Finance, Communication and Investor’s Relation from Fundação Instituto de Pesquisas Contábeis, Atuariais e Financeiras (Fipecafi).

Also coming from RPSN Advogados, André Staffa Neto joins L.O. Baptista’s corporate and M&A departments as partner, bringing over 20 years of experience in the legal market and in-depth knowledge of tax, contracts and corporate legislation. Academically, Mr. Staffa Neto holds a Bachelor of Laws from Universidade Paulista (UNIP) and a postgraduate degree in Business Law from Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV).

Promoted from senior associate to partner, Maria Beatriz Grella Vieira specializes in corporate, M&A and arbitration matters. She started her career as a trainee at L.O. Baptista, returning in 2018 after six years as an associate at Vieira Rezende Advogados. Academically, Ms. Grella Vieira holds a Bachelor of Laws from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie, a specialization degree from FGV and a postgraduate degree in Business Management from Universität zu Köln (Germany).

New dispute resolution partner André de Martini Menossi began his career at L.O. Baptista as an intern in 2008, returning to the firm in 2017 after practicing at well-known firm Madeira, Valentim & Alem Advogados and his own practice, Menossi Advogados. Academically, Mr. Menossi holds a Bachelor of Laws and a postgraduate degree in Civil Procedural Law from Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC-SP).

With over 13 years at L.O. Baptista, Ulisses Simões da Silva was also promoted to partner within the dispute resolution, family law and successions departments. Mr. Silva focuses on dispute resolution, preventive litigation as well as consumer law issues. Alongside Mr. Menossi and multidisciplinary partner Fabricio Polido, Mr. Silva will be a key partner in dispute resolution mandates related to innovation and technology. Academically, he holds a Bachelor of Laws from Universidade de São Paulo (USP) and a postgraduate degree in Civil, Corporate and Civil Procedural Law from Complexo Jurídico Damásio de Jesus.

With this wave of promotions, L.O. Baptista Advogados strategically increases its number of partners within key departments, in line with its recently announced initiative of injecting its dispute resolution practice with a modern and multidisciplinary focus, connecting the litigation, arbitration, and mediation departments with the rest of the firm’s practices.

“This is a moment of major changes and, therefore, renovation and adaptation are pillars which must guide any business. By acting in a more integrated manner, the firm places itself in a leading position to meet the complexity of the modern business environment and prepares itself for a new growth cycle.”, stated André Mendes Espírito Santo, dispute resolution partner of L.O. Baptista.
