Note of Demise – Professor Luiz Olavo Baptista

10/18/2019

It is with great sadness that we inform our clients and friends that Professor Luiz Olavo Baptista passed away last Friday, October 18.

A partner of the firm for over five decades until 2015, when he decided to leave to fully dedicate himself as an arbitrator and expert consultant, Professor Baptista has always conducted his work in a way that reflected his charismatic personality.

As a visionary, Professor Baptista was one of the pioneers to bring the concept of Arbitration to Brazil. His career went beyond the practice of law, having ser-ved in well-known Brazilian and international institutions. A lawyer and an arbitrator with a true vocation, he practiced law for more than fifty years and gained recognition both in Brazil and abroad. He also served as a Professor of International Law at the São Paulo University (USP) Law School.

Colleagues, employees, students and clients who had the privilege to work and be with him know that not only was he a brilliant attorney, arbitrator and Professor, but also an extraordinary human being. Wherever he worked, Professor Baptista made a difference, winning hundreds of friends who today mourn his death.

Although deeply saddened, we are greatly honored to be able to carry his le-gacy forward, written in the history of Brazilian Law.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
