The week of October 14, 2024, will be dedicated to arbitration and other appropriate means for conflict resolution in the city of São Paulo, during the São Paulo Arbitration Week (“SPAW”). Now in its seventh edition, the event aims to promote the city internationally as a hub for arbitration proceedings and other methods known as Alternative Dispute Resolution (“ADR”).
Throughout SPAW, various events will take place, featuring the participation of lawyers, corporate legal departments, arbitrators, investors, and representatives from arbitral institutions. They will engage in discussions about the most relevant practices, challenges, and advancements in arbitration.
In addition to national speakers, international guests will also be present, bringing their practices and academic insights with the goal of contributing to the improvement of arbitration in Brazil.
SPAW will kick off with the 11th edition of the Center for Arbitration and Mediation of the Chamber of Commerce Brazil-Canada (“CAM-CCBC”), held simultaneously with the 17th Biennial Conference of the International Federation of Commercial Arbitration Institutions. During the CAM-CCBC congress, panelists will discuss highly relevant topics, such as arbitration in airport concessions and methodologies for restoring the economic and financial balance in contracts. The event will feature several international speakers, including Edna Sussman, Galina Zukova, Gary Birnberg, Ismail Selim, Marike Paulsson, Stefan Kröll, among others. Silvia Pachikoski, partner in the Dispute Resolution practice at L.O. Baptista and Vice President of CAM-CCBC, will be responsible for delivering the closing speech at the event.
As in previous editions, SPAW will provide learning opportunities, discussions, and strategic reflections for all those working in or interested in appropriate conflict resolution methods.
