The former head of legal from livestock management company iRancho has returned to Brazilian firm L O Baptista Advogados as a partner in its M&A practice.
Maria Elisa de Carvalho Pullen Parente joined the Highly Recommended firm on 20 June, taking the partner tally to 20. Parente has more than 15 years of experience as a corporate lawyer, in which time she has frequently helped investors and start-ups in the agribusiness, healthcare and education sectors. The new L O Baptista partner has both in-house and private practice experience.
For the last seven months, she has run her own law firm – M E Parente Advocacia Empresarial. This followed five years as a name partner at Tarsila Delabandera e Maria Elisa Parente Advocacia Empresarial. In 2016, Parente was appointed as head of legal at Brazilian livestock management technology company iRancho. Before that, she had a fouryear spell as the head of legal and compliance and Brazilian education company Edufuturo.
Parente started her career as a private practice lawyer, with a year-long stint at Dias Carneiro Advogados, after 18 months at L O Baptista. According to M&A partner Cássia Monteiro, the new addition “brings valuable experience and complements our team significantly,” adding that Parente will help to strengthen the firm’s technology and start-up offering.
L O Baptista is best known for its disputes practice, in addition to its work on M&A deals in Brazil. At the end of 2023, the firm helped Spanish glass company Vidrala acquire the remaining shares in Brazilian counterpart Vidroporto for US$174 million, a deal that made Vidrala the sole owner of the target.
