Highly Recommended firm L O Baptista has strengthened its healthcare and life sciences practice by hiring a partner from firm SPLAW – Spiewak e Carneiro Advogados.

Guillermo Glassman joined the firm’s São Paulo office on 16 October. The firm now has 21 partners.

The new partner brings extensive experience in administrative law and regulatory matters in life sciences and healthcarematters. Glassman spent the last two years at SPLAW. Before that, he was an in-house lawyer at Brazilian commercial conglomerate Grupo NC for five years. That came after several stints at Brazilian firms, including Lacaz Martins, Pereira Neto, Gurevich & Schoueri Advogados and Marcos Monteiro Sociedade de Advogados.

“Guillermo comes to add even more value to our practice with his expertise in complex transactions and highly relevant regulatory issues,” explains Sueli de Freitas Veríssimo, head of L O Baptista’s life sciences practice.

He adds that the arrival of the new partner is part of the firm’s strategy to keep up with regulatory and technological changes within Brazil’s health sector.

Benny Spiewak, head of SPLAW’s life sciences practices wished Glassman well in his future endeavours.

L O Baptista is noted for its disputes practice, in addition to its work on M&A deals in Brazil. The firm is headquartered in São Paulo, with an additional office in Belo Horizonte. In August, the firm helped Brazilian agritech InCeres divest its operations to Swedish outdoor power equipment manufacturer Husqvarna.

SPLAW is best known for its intellectual property, technology and life sciences practices. Back in January, the firm hired a member of São Paulo’s state health board as a partner.
